Amateur Rib Cook Off

This year at the 8^th Annual Warren Ribfest and Music Festival we will again be holding the Annual Amateur Rib Cook Off.  This is the 5^th year for this event.  We are inviting local rib cookers to come and compete for the title of “King/Queen of the Backyard BBQ”.

This competition will be held on Saturday July 23^rd starting at 10:00 a.m. and ending at 3:00 p.m.  This will allow for 5 hours of cooking time.  We suggest that you come early enough to set up your cooking equipment and be ready to begin on time.  All contestants will be allowed to start cooking their ribs no earlier than 10:00 a.m.  You may begin later if you choose to.  The cooking will end promptly at 3:00 p.m. and judging will begin immediately after.

Participating amateur rib cookers will be required to use only baby-back pork loin ribs.  No pre-cooking or preparation is allowed.  A full rack will need to be prepared for judging purposes.  These ribs can be purchased locally from Sam’s Club or other grocery stores.  Contact the meat dept. manager of your local retailer.

Ribs will be prepared on site.  Participants will need to supply all of their own cooking equipment.  Ex: grill or smoker. 

If participants wish to prepare their own sauce for judging it will also need to be prepared on site.

Judging will be based on presentation, taste, texture and sauce.  Points from each category will be totaled to decide the overall winner.

The winner will receive a $100 cash prize and a trophy.  All other entrants will receive a participation ribbon.

There is a $10 entry fee.  Checks can be made payable to Warren Ribfest.
